This month I am trying to finish at least 30 pages of my current project, a scifi story based partly on the Matsumoto “Leijiverse.” The Japanese school year ends in March and starts up again in April, so I have about 30 full days of no classes to plan or teach or assist! I’m spending all my energy on this book.
I’ve been writing and drafting this story in a sketchbook since I finished Two Eyes of the Beautiful II in November. My draft pages are all complete up until around page 25. For me, if I have that much done, drawing the finished pages is relatively fast. Here’s one of the spreads in my sketchbook:
I’d like to print a 30-40 page zine when I’m done. Here’s the cover of my primary reference source from Matsumoto Leiji. It’s called Sennen Joou, or “The 1000-Year Queen.”
It’s not all strictly Matsumoto Leiji-inspired. This is a spread from one of the segments that’s a little different, but it ties into my version of the Leijiverse.
By the way, I’m posting updates on my progress on Twitter(@ryancecil). I have started using Twitter lately, and it doesn’t seem so bad. I’ll post more updates on my blog, too.
