The school needs to install earthquake-reinforcement columns into the building this summer. We have to tear out our garden, most of our trees, and our turtle pond in order to park the construction cranes.

Good sketchbooks are really hard to find in Japan. This is a good one from PH Stationery. Only 600 yen and the paper tooth is just perfect for me. The paper is just a little bit light but it’s fine. It’s a thin book, maybe only 140 pages? The pages fold back flat really well, and then the book closes fine. A real good sketchbook, grade A.

I designed this collection a few months ago after seeing a show of mega-expensive jewelry at the Mori Art Museum in Roppongi. Van Cleef & Arpels makes things like shiny tiny fairies encrusted made out of titanium, or butterflies made of rubies and emeralds.
